Ambition Creating Happiness

  • Could you be happy without money? Would having a lot of money make you happier?
  • What do you push yourself to do and why?
  • What are the basic requirements for you to feel good about your life?
  • Do you think you are more or less content that other people?
  • What things did you dislike doing in the past that you are now glad that you did?
  • How much you you think these things really matter, in terms of happiness/success in life:
    • where you live
    • who your parents werehow much money you havewhat you physically look likehow much you are like or different from those around you
  • What is your relationship with failure?
  • How has increasing technology and material comfort affected our spiritual lives? 

Fame Ambition Questions

  • Who do you idolize? Why does that person appeal to you? Which of his/her traits could you adopt as your own?
  • What celebrity do you envy? Why do you suppose you feel strongly about this person?
  • How much do you need outside credit/ reassurance for yourself and your accomplishments? Do things count less for you if nobody knows about them?
  • What do you suppose you would gain if you became very famous tomorrow? What would you lose?

Value Choices Around Ambition

  • Would you rather be a tortured genius or a happy average person?
  • What do you value in your life that money cannot buy? What do you wish you had more of in your life that money cannot buy?
  • If you could be only one, would you rather be rich, famous or loved?
  • Would you rather be very attractive/ not very intelligent or very intelligent/ not very attractive? 
    • What about for your spouse?For your child?
  • How do you define a successful person?
  • What makes you think a person is lazy?

What Lies Beneath Your Ambitions

  • Do you think you are better than some other people? Do you think some other people are better than you? What makes you feel the way you do?
  • In what ways do you define yourself by your material possessions?
  • What is the biggest force driving your ambitions?
  • What desires or ambitions did you have in the past that you have given up?
    • Have you let go and accepted that these things will not happen?If not, how can you get at least some aspects of these things into your present life?
  • What are the nagging disappointments in your life? What would it take to resolve them?
    • How could you be more content/ accepting of the things you cannot change?

Vocational Ambition Questions

  • What gets you excited about life?
  • What activities make you lose track of time?
  • Would you rather work less overall than you do now, or work more doing things you really love?
  • How did you decide what to be “when you grew up”? If you have never decided, how did you end up where you are?
  • What did you want to be when you grew up?
  • What did you think you would be when you grew up?

Balancing Your Ambitions

  • What do you look forward to?
  • At this moment, what is your greatest desire?
  • What is something you don’t like to do but are good at?
  • What is something you aren’t good at but really enjoy doing?
  • When was the last time you felt out of control? What did you do about it?
  • Do you feel that your ambitions are in balance?
  • If you died tomorrow, what would you regret not having done?
