Tolerance is: fortitude, gut, grit, strength, patience, forbearance, clemency, stamina, endurance, indulgence, lenience, mercifulness, advanced, humane, sustained.
Tolerance is the force that binds us to all life and to all spirit. It is a divine gift that gets us through difficult trials, unpleasant experiences and pain of all kinds. It teaches us that we cannot escape the things we do not like, that we must learn to accept and incorporate the elements of the world we do not like. If we do not find this acceptance, we will strengthen these opposing forces instead of lessening them. It is not passive acceptance and permissiveness for it sometimes requires a resistance to strong forces that threaten to make us small and blind. Tolerance requires us to fight the instinct to be severe to others, and ultimately to be kind to ourselves.
Meditation on Tolerance:
I must accept that others are not like myself; this ensures the beauty of the world.
I must indulge the follies of the world; this sustains the fragility of people.
I must permit the flourishing of ideas; this creates the freedom of souls.
I must allow the expression of spirit; this delivers my own humanity.
I must accept the entirety of my life; this belies the purpose of happiness.
