Poetry is an expression of beauty and intense emotion using written language or another creative form. Difficult, abstract concepts and feelings expressed in a concrete way others can identify with.

Key Concepts

An abstract is something that is theoretical rather than practical. It is not easily defined in concrete terms.

Communion is a connection between two or more people or entities, a giving and receiving of thoughts, emotions and ideas.

The essence is the qualities of a thing that give it its identity, those crucial and indispensable elements that distinguish it from everything else.

Form is the outward structure and appearance of something, distinct from its content.

Metaphor is stating that an item is a different, usually not connected, item to show a figurative rather than literal relationship.

Something realistic is portrayed artistically as close to its natural state as possible.

Rhythm is the measure of time against regular repeated actions or motifs. It is the pattern, however simple or complex, weak or strong, that something makes through time.

Anything romantic is stylized and elevated, about idealized adventure and/or love.

Something sublime is elevated above the general group, to suggest nobility or some other higher state.

If something is universal, it affects and includes everyone and everything.
