Universal theme overview

Truth is a child in the Universal themes series and is a member of the Big Ideas theme family.

Truth is knowledge that is factually or logically accurate. The idea conforms to an objective reality and exists outside of emotional or personal states.

Big ideas

  • Some things are innately true, others are not (they are false).
  • What you feel or what you believe to be true is not truth, no matter how sincere that belief.
  • Popularity is not truth.
  • There are universal truths, and there are personal truths that are real for your being.
  • Being human involves feeling a wide variety of emotions and learning to feel and express them.

Truth key concepts

  • An absolute is pure in nature and quality, complete and final. It is not to be questioned.
  • Accuracy is making sure that there are no errors, that everything is correct. It fits the standard required specification.
  • A façade is the surface of something, the part that can be seen and therefore presents a picture of a desired impression, rather than a fully honest one.
  • A fact is anything that has been done or proven to be true.
  • Fantasy is the area of vivid imagination, dreaming, and creation of mental imagination of things which have not happened.
  • Logic is a study of the thinking process (reasoning) and how a person sorts out information, figures and principles and uses these to make decisions in life.
  • A miracle is a wonderful thing that has occurred, an event that occurs despite seeming to contradict the laws of nature, it happens with some kind of divine or spiritual intervention.
  • Objectivity is the point of view of observing actual conditions, uninfluenced by emotion, guesses, or personal prejudice.
  • Reality is everything that objectively, factually exists.
  • Sensibility is the ability to feel, especially to feel and express emotions.
